Women at Amelia Island Doing Double Duty

Due to a washout of nearly an entire round of tennis, many of the women were forced to play 2 matches each to get the tournament back on schedule.

Lindsay Davenport, playing Venus Williams for the 26th time, took the match in 3 sets after dropping the first set 6-1.

Also winning two on Friday to get to the semifinals were No. 7-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova (d. (11) Jankovic, and (15) Asagoe in three), and (12) Silvia Farina Elia (d. (8) Schnyder, (2) Serena). Serena won the first set over Farina Elia and held three match points in the second-set tiebreak before losing the tiebreak and retiring with a sprained ankle.

Unseeded Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano also won two matches on Friday, ousting No. 13 seed Ai Sugiyama, then upsetting No. 6-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva in straight sets.

And when Andre looked like he was going to take the 2nd set easily, he made some unusual forehand errors and never really recovered from it. Everyone has less than stellar days on the court sometimes, but that's why Captain McEnroe worked so hard to get Andre to come and play - because in a big setting players like Andre usually shine.
